Common image sizes and best use cases

Resizing images before uploading to websites, blogs, social media or ecommerce platforms can greatly improve loading speed and user experience. Large original photos slow down pages and may negatively affect performance scores, while properly resized images look clean and load fast.

For avatars (WeChat, Discord, GitHub, etc.), a square size like 512×512 or1024×1024 is usually enough. For cover images, blog headers or hero banners, wider formats such as 1200×630 or 1920×1080 work better. Ecommerce platforms like Amazon or Shopify often prefer high‑resolution square images (e.g. 1000×1000 or larger) so that product photos stay sharp when zoomed in.

Pixel mode vs percentage mode

Pixel mode is ideal when you know the exact target dimensions, such as “make all images 1920×1080” or “create 1:1 product photos at 1024×1024”. Percentage mode is more convenient for uniformly scaling images, for example shrinking everything to 50% of the original size. Keeping the aspect ratio locked helps prevent stretched or squashed images and is recommended in most cases.

When preparing images for print or ID photos, pay attention to required resolution and DPI. For web and social media, focus on pixel dimensions and file size. After resizing, you can still use ImageWA's image compression tool to further reduce file size and speed up loading.
