How to Compress an Image to 100KB Without Losing Quality

A 100 KB limit is common for online forms and profile uploads. It is a tight budget, so the right workflow is to reduce unnecessary pixels first, then use a quality setting that meets the limit while preserving the details that matter.
Start with the right dimensions
A large camera image has far more pixels than most form uploads need. Resize it to the destination dimensions before trying aggressive compression. Fewer pixels typically produce a much better-looking 100 KB result.
Avoid enlarging images before compression. Upscaling adds pixels but does not create original detail.
Choose an efficient format
JPG is usually a good choice for photographs. WebP can provide smaller files where the destination accepts it. PNG is more suitable for graphics, transparency, and sharp text, but it can be harder to fit under 100 KB.
Always check the upload site format requirements before converting.
Use a target-size compressor and inspect the output
Upload the image, enter 100 KB, process it, and inspect faces, text, and high-contrast edges. If quality is too low, resize the source a little more and try again. This usually gives a better result than forcing an extremely low quality setting on a large image.
